Calypso Trend

My favourite summer trend of all! What Topshop are calling the "Calypso Trend" has it all. Bright glowing neons, outgoing prints, dip-dye, rough denim, and metalic body skimming peices that all shout "look at me!". This look is about being daring, creative and making a statement, so if you're not into bold colours and crazy patterns, you could always tone it down by blending it in with calmer trends. But with this trend, it's all about attitude.
Tropical Floral Zip Shorts

Tropical, Hawiian prints are definatley tricky to pull off, especially if you're matching your dads embarrising holiday shirt, but when you get it right it can look wild and outgoing or laid-back and relaxed; it's up to how you style it! These garish patterend shorts from Topshop look abstract from a distance, but when you look closer the pattern is made up of colourful flowers and leaves. The two symetrical zips down the sides of the shorts make it look more edgy and modern, giving this relaxed pair of shorts a twist. The pattern also comes in ciggarette trousers and a halter top.

3D Spiral Tie Dye

Calypso trend isn't only for parties that never sleep, it can also be laid-back. Tie-dye comes in a variety of colours and most blues and yellows are quite calming and peaceful. To make this work, you don't want to go full on hippy; one statement piece of tie-dye is creative enough. There are a wide range of tie-dye tee's like this one from COW, but you don't have to stick to tee's. Everything is being tie-dyed now, from leggings to shirts, so be adventurous and see what you can find!

Lime green is a tricky colour to work with anyway without it being neon, but if you want to go bright, you can't get brighter than this! Be carefull you don't get mistaken for a traffic light when wearing this lime crop top from River Island! It also has bows on the back which give it that extra touch! Tone it down for day with white and gold and live it up at night with a black contrast or even another neon colour!

MOTO XL Sleeveless Denim ShirtIf you're looking for denim, Topshop have the best selection around! From denim shirts, jeans, shorts, skirts, and this long sleeless shirt i found whilst browsing in their denim library. For an outgoing look i'd style this with bright patterned leggings, Dr Martens and some neon rimmed sunnies. Resist pairing denim with denim most of the time, and certainly not with this piece, but a denim jacket and jeans is just about acceptable if you style it right! If you're a bit like Gok and you want to be creative, you could style this up a bit by adding gold studs along the shoulders or collar! Alternatively, you could just shop around!

Hope this has given you inspiration to pull off your own "Calypso" look. Thanks for reading! Come again xx

5 pink things!

Unfortunatley, i have missed the deadline ( i think anyway) for a March Favourites post because i have been on holiday. This was very upsetting really, because i have a lot of favourite things that i would have wanted to share! However, as some of them were pink, it gave me the idea to do a post about my 5 favourite pink things! I haven't unpacked yet so i can't take photo's but google will do! :).

The new(ish) Revlon lip butters have become my favourite obbession recently. I bought one and fell in love instantly. I got the colour "cotton candy". It's a baby pink colour but when you wear it it looks much more sheer than in the tube because the texture is like a balm. I love this because usually i don't like lipsticks because they are dry but this pink thing is incredible. Also, the packaging is gorgeous; i just couldn't resist.

I love the body shop, especially their body butters and i like buying the mini ones so that i can mix and match them more frequently. Recently i have finished up a strawberry body butter and have started using the pink grapefruit one. I didn't think i would like the scent before i smelt it but it actually smells delicious! Now i can't wait to use it!

Now technically this is purple and pink, but that doesn't matter, we're friends :D So i've only recently discovered bomb cosmetics because they have a section for it in my local yankee candle store, and i was surprised why i hadn't used their soaps before! They are absolutley yummy! This one is the one i am using now called Caiperina. It smells just like bubble gum and again, i look forward to using this!

This is my current favourite pink nail varnish. It's called Pink Spice and it's from Accessorize and it is almost identical to MAC's version called Bad Fairy, except this one is much cheaper!! I have spent many boring lessons with this nail varnish on just moving my hand around and watching the colour turn from pink to orange and even hints of gold! It is beautiful!

First of all, let me start by saying that i am a total Lush junkie and that there is hardly anything from Lush that i dislike at all, so it way pretty obvious that i would love this, and i DO! This limited edition easter bath bomb from lush smells divine, and i think a bit like snow fairy the shower gel. It's so pretty and would make the perfect easter present!

Thanks for reading, hope this gave you some pink thoughts!

Aussie Hair Review!

I've been on the hunt for the perfect shampoo and conditioner duo and i think i have finally found it! I saw numerous adverts for this brand in magazines, so to find out what all the fuss is about, i decided to try it out.

The first thing i fell in love with was the packaging. It's very different to that of other more "popular" shampoos and conditioners in that it's not in a funky shape and it doesn't have any cheesy logos; it looks like a natrual product that might actually work well!

When i used this duo on my hair i was pleasantly surprised! I only needed a small amount because it expanded into a foamy texture once on my hair. They both smell really great, and are really easy to apply and rinse out, leaving virtually no build up.
After drying my hair, it felt really soft, smooth, and light. It was also really tame and easy to style. The next morning it was still shiny and soft, and not limp like other shampoos and conditioners left my hair.
The only downside to this product is that it's slightly pricey at £4.50 (but i think it's worth it ;) and the lid is a bit stiff when you first use it.
Overall i'm really pleased with product and i would recomend anyone check out their Aussie website ;)

spring nails!

Although it's still a bit chilly out, i saw some blossom on some trees the other day and it totally got me in the mood for spring! Spring is all about light airy styles, pastels, girly shapes and patterns galore, but also for the little things in life, like nail varnish, this is the season where the colours come out! I don't know why but i have been obsessed with nail varnish recently and have scouted out some gorgeous colours that i can't wait to purchase. My favourite nail colours for spring are yellow, light blue, peachy pinks, and greens, so here are some alternatives for each of those colours:

February Favourites!!

Pinch punch first day of the month! February has been and gone and the arrival of March means that i can make my February favourites post! This month has seen varying weather - at the start of the month we were still burried in a blanket of snow, and by the end of the month we saw a few days of sunlight. I used these favourites depending on whether it was cold or sunny so there isn't a pattern in my choices i'm afraid! So let's get started, my top 10 February faves!

This month i have become addicted to scented candles! I love that when i get home, my room smells divine. It's a great way to relax especially in a bubble bath or just before bed, and i am absolutley in love with Yankee Candles. They have a great selection of scents and i can't get enough of them. The jars look cute but i also like the small tumblers as well. These two scents are country lemonade and soft blanket.

Next is this biscuit colour nail varnish from Next's oh so nails range. It's not a colour i would normally go for but it has definatley grown on me and now i love it. I love how it's a nude/biscuit colour because it looks relaxed and is good for school. You can also get away with only one coat which is rare in many nail varnishes.

Now, i am a total LUSH junkie and i'm always looking for new things when i shop there. Mainly i go for the bath bombs but i decided to look for something new and i came across this. It's a lovely minty smell which is great because i like to feel fresh and clean after a shower. Predominantley i think that this smell is aimed at men because men obviously don't like florally smells, but i'm a girl and i love it!

I love lip balms and they are not only just a way to moisturize my lips but also something i do when i'm bored or stressed - i put on lip balm. Recently i have discovered the body shop born lippy range. As well as this raspberry flavour i love the orange and mango flavour and the watermelon flavour. They come in cute little pots and make your lips feel like velvet!
This is a hair product from the Rockholic TIGI range. It is a shine blaster and it smells like heaven! It is litterally the best smell i've ever smelt! You use it on wet hair and it gives you really soft and shiny hair! Plus you only need a pea sized amount each time so it lasts forever!
The first makeup product on my list is the Pixi nude shade wardrobe palette. It contains eye shadows and blush's which is convenient for travel, and all of the colours are gorgeous. It is a cheaper alternative to the Urban Decay Naked Palette, and i absolutley love it!
Another makeup product which i actually said "wow" when i used it, is this No7 extreme length mascara. Alot of mascara's out there have huge advertising schemes that claim to make your lashes look almost false and very long, but this mascara simply didn't need that because it actually makes your lashes 10x longer! I'd never seen a brush like it before; it rarely creates clumps and it spreads out your lashes. I LOVE this!
Now for the first fashion peice on my top 10; this month i have been in love with silky printed scarves, especially chains, ropes, and regal colours. To see my scarf take a look at another post of mine: http://alittlebirdytoldmesomethingawesome.blogspot.com/2012/02/vintage-fair.html (phew long link!) You can buy these scarves in all sorts of accessory stores such as accessorize. I love the silky fabric used and the patterns are beautiful!
This is my cuddly jumper that i go to when it's cold or i'm feeling cosy! So for the colder weeks in Feb, i've been glued to this. It's from Dorothy Perkins and it comes in this corally pink colour that reminds me of pink wafer biscuits! When i bought this i thought i'd be daring and the splash of colour really cheers me up and is great for colour blocking. It also comes in raspberry purple if you prefer :)
Finally, the last of my favourites for this month is a perfume from Marks and Spencers called Leilah. I actually bought it for my mum but i loved it so much that i also had to have one. It comes in a small 10cm bottle which is convenient for travel and the pink and gold packaging looks cute and sophisticated. The smell is also not too sweet but also not too mature, it's just right!! This perfume is under £10, a bargain!!!

Vintage Fair!

I've never been into vintage, but recently a friend has got me hooked, and after going to a vintage fair, i absolutley love it! When i first heard about this fair i was a bit hesitant and thought it would be like a junk sale, but when we arrived, it was really popular and there were some unique things there! Not everything was to my taste but after looking around, we found some pretty quirky items!

One thing i bought which we had to go back for because i couldn't make up my mind, was this Givenchy Tartin et Chocolat minature perfume bottle. The fragrance is so sweet and the bottle is so cute that i couldn't resist this bargain! It reminds me of a set my mum used to have that i liked to play with as a kid and i very rarely find them these days! After the fair, i found it online for ridiculous prices up to £30 when i got mine for only £2!!

Another thing i bought which i wouldn't usually buy is this quirky fuischa pink lego ring. They had lots of different colours but my friend and i bought the unusual colours that you wouldn't normally find in lego. They also sold scrabble letter jewellery and even rings with 2 pence peices on it!

The last thing i bought and didn't just wish i bought was this silky blue scarf. I was so happy with this bargain because there are ones similar sold in places like accessorize that are much more expensive. This one is a square and actually has a boat in the middle with a border of chains.

Among other things there were some gorgeous brooches and other jewellery bits and bobs; delicate vintage fashion magazines; band t-shirts and all sorts of clothing.

Food glorious food!

There are many bizare and outgoing prints for this summer including a fruity theme which has hit the highstreet like a tonne of bananas! They've been seen by Dolce and Gabanna numerous times on the catwalk (check out an older post new year, new you!) and especially in food oriented jewellery. Surprisingly, this yummy idea can be transformed from quirky and fun to elegant and mature very easily, and can tie in with other trends, such as block colour, to create a really bold and vibrant statement. If you want top quality apples on your clothes you can indulge yourself in high-end fashion for an exclusive and beautifully made peice, or you can take a trip down cheap and cheerful lane and pull off the same look for a fraction of the price. I'm going to show you an example of both, which people will be complimenting you on for months.

High-End fruity fashion peices:

FRUITA - Fruit shaped ring
Starting on the left, from Ted Baker is this beautifully made fruit shape ring. I am personally in love with the lemon shaped one but they also come in rasperry, green apple, and plum! They are so unique and juicy they look good enough to eat!!
The watermelon design skirt from Asos is incredibly quirky and loud! It's great for block colouring as well and i LOVE it! <3 It may be pricey at £45 but you are going to get your money's worth, and it will be something that no one else has!

Below are these original Charlotte Olympia Tooty Fruity shoes and they are incredibly out there! You've got get the look down to a T to pull these off but all they really need is confidence. Forget mastering one fruit, with these you've got a whole bowl!

Cheap and Cheerful:
Image 1 of ASOS T-Shirt In Strawberry PrintImage 1 of ASOS Vest with Chilli PrintAsos has a huge range of fruit and veg print clothes. On the right is a £16 strawberry print tee and on the left a chilli print £14 sleevless tee (not a fruit but still one of your five a day :D)
Finally these epic fruity converese! They are so original that i have never seen anything like them before and i think they are fabulous! They come in strawberry and lemon and make mouths water!
